BLOGGING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS
I personally applied these tips long after I started my first blog. After seeing the improvements, I wished that I found out this information sooner. Fortunately, you will not need to go through the frustration that I did.(2)
Without wasting any time, let’s jump straight into it.
1. GET GOOD WEB HOSTING
I can’t stress enough how important your hosting service is. Before I started my first blog, I didn’t know that website speed helps with SEO and ranking on Google.(3)
So I chose a cheap and unreliable hosting service which I will not name in this article. Sure enough, my website was down multiple times a month. Also, in the times that it wasn’t down, it had very bad speed.
Also, if you have bad hosting, you will need to deal with a ton of errors. If you are not a technical person, you should keep that in mind.
If you want to have a high performing website, you need a good web hosting service. Now I use Bluehost and I suggest you do the same.
Their performance is very good and they have amazing customer support. Don’t neglect this aspect.
2. FOCUS ON CALLS TO ACTION
CTAs (calls to action) should be one of the most important aspects that you should focus on when you’re writing your content. Basically, they make the difference when it comes to how much money you’re gonna make.(4)
If you don’t tell people to take a specific action, like signing up to your email list (more on that later) or clicking a specific button, they will simply not do it. This is definitely a blogging tip to keep in mind.
You know those YouTube guys who ask you every 3 minutes to like and subscribe or comment? Well, that’s why they have so many likes and subscribers. Because they tell people to perform a specific action.
The same thing can be said about blogging. You work so hard to get people to see your amazing content. It makes sense to engage them and give them more valuable information further down the road.
3. BE CONSISTENT
Maybe you haven’t noticed this, but nearly all the successful blogs that get a lot of traffic have a consistent posting schedule. It doesn’t need to be every day, but they usually post 2-3 times per week.
The people who run successful websites have a clear posting schedule. For example, they will post 1 article on Monday, another one on Wednesday and the last one on Saturday. They maintain this schedule for months and even years, and that’s why they rank for so many competitive keywords and they get A TON of traffic to their blogs.(5)
A consistent posting schedule helps with consistent rankings. SEO has become a bit more competitive in the past couple of years and that’s why we need to show Google that out blogs are worth being on the first page. And what better way to do that than to consistently post quality content?
4. KEYWORD RESEARCH
This one ties to most of the tips on this list, and it is one of the most important ones. Keyword research is an aspect that all bloggers should focus on, especially in the beginning of their journey.
If you don’t do proper keyword research in the beginning, then either nobody will find your content, or nobody will search for it. Let me explain:
If you write an article titled “Best Running Shoes”, you will most likely not rank on the first page of Google for that specific keyword. Why? Because it’s very competitive, and the blogs who are on the first page for that specific keyword, have a ton of authority in the eyes of Google.
Therefore, nobody will find your content. So, basically you just worked in vain.(6,7)
On the other hand, if you write on article about “Best Red Nike Running Shoes For Middle Aged Men 2021”, you will most likely rank on the first page of Google. BUT you will still not get that much traffic. Why? Because not so many people search for that specific phrase.
Therefore, even if you rank on Google, you might not get traffic because the phrases you’re trying to rank for don’t have so much search volume.
So what you should do is write an article about “Best Red Nike Running Shoes”. That way, you will not have so much competition and the keyword that you’re trying to rank for has a decent search volume.
Again, keyword research is a very important aspect if you’re planning to get traffic with SEO. If you have a budget, I suggest investing in a quality tool, like SEMrush.
5. ANALYZE YOUR COMPETITORS
Analyzing your competitors is another great way to start getting more traction. If you know what’s already working for other people in your niche, growing a successful blog becomes significantly easier.(8)
I’ve been doing this for a couple of years now and I can tell you it works like magic. Figure out what the best performing pages of your competitors are and write something a bit better or a bit longer.
For that matter, you should try SEMrush. You just need to type your competitor’s domain name, and then search for the top performing pages.
After that, read their articles and write something similar. Why? Because you already know that Google likes that kind of content, which means you have a good chance of ranking and getting traffic to your website.
In my opinion, this is one of the best ways in regards to growing a successful blog. You should at least take it into consideration.
6. BUILD AN EMAIL LIST
Email marketing is an aspect that most beginners neglect. For some reason, it seems complicated and hard. In reality, email marketing is quite simple and it is the most important thing you should focus one when building an online business.
An email list is traffic that you own. Nobody can take that away from you. On the other hand, if Google makes an update you could lose half of your traffic overnight.
That’s not the case when you’re building an email list. Also, the cool thing about it is that you can write an email once and everyone will receive it at the time you want them to receive it.(9,10)
Your email list is the closest you will get to “passive income”. There is no other way (that I know of) to get money by just pushing some buttons. That is, of course, if you have a large list.
If you neglect email marketing, you are leaving A LOT of money on the table. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking it’s not profitable. Believe me, it is.
For that matter, I suggest you try GetResponse. It’s the software I use and the best one that I know of.
Once you start getting traffic to your blog, you should capture the emails of your visitors. After that, you can promote your content or even sell them products. You can even recommend them products that you love with affiliate marketing. The sky is the limit.
7. HAVE FUN
Last but not least, you should … have fun! There is no sense in spending time and energy for something you don’t even enjoy doing. That’s why you decided to start a blog in the first place.
Blogging is a great way to escape your day job. If you have fun creating articles and freely expressing yourself, there is no reason why you wouldn’t succeed.
In the beginning, it will be difficult. But once you start getting a hang of it, blogging becomes really fun. You can write about whatever you want, help people, make money and have fun!
Having fun is an aspect that most of us forget about. But it might even be the most important one. Do you think Mark Zuckerberg hated coding when he created Facebook? Or do you think Warren Buffett hated the stock exchange? I guess not.(11)
Enjoying what you do can make the difference between success and failure. If you have fun blogging, you will 100% be able to leave your 9 to 5 and travel the world! There’s really nothing better than freedom.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Hopefully these tips inspired you to take action and showed you how awesome blogging can be. If you implement all of them, you will 100% have a successful blog.
The most important thing is to be consistent and to not give up. Just keep moving forward and believe in yourself. So many people managed to grow blogs that bring in 5 or even 6 figures per month.
They did it because they didn’t give up after writing 10 articles. They enjoy producing quality content and helping people. Blogging is a very fun and inexpensive way to start making money online and having fun.
