HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON DELTA FLIGHTS: FINAL THOUGHTS
USE GOOD WEBSITES TO SAVE MONEY ON DELTA FLIGHTS
This one is a no-brainer for some of you, but there are still people that don’t know from where to book tickets. For example, my mother once booked a ticket from one website, and since then she didn’t even think about checking other websites for better prices. All she knew is that she didn’t want to complicate things.
We are lucky enough to live in the era of technology. You can easily find any type of information in a matter of seconds. The same goes with booking Delta flights.(1)
You probably didn’t know this, but there is a thing called Google Flights, and it can scan all the websites for the best possible price. Make sure you use it the next time you want to book a flight (it can literally save you up to $100!)
Just pick the lowest possible price and Google will redirect you to where you will need to complete your order. It’s just that easy!
BEST TIME TO BOOK
Now that you found the right website to book your flight on, you can just sit back and relax, right? Well, not really.
You should really consider the time and day of your flight, as it can make the difference between you saving money or overspending it.(2)
You probably heard the phrase “book your flight as early as possible and you will get the best price”. While some of us don’t completely agree with that, it still has some truth to it.
Obviously, if you were to book your flight a couple of months in advance, you should be able to save some money. But the actual useful information can come from non other than a Delta reservations agent.
In an interview with consumerreports.org, it was revealed that the best time to book your flight is about 2-3 months in advance. That’s because some flights will simply go on sale because they are not close to being sold. Also, these flights are not too close to the departure that so that the last minute price increase can be a factor.
So the fact that if you book your flight 1 year in advance is completely false. Tough luck aunt Emma!

USE EXCHANGE RATES
With companies such as Delta, you have the opportunity to get international flights with the same company. This means that if you want to fly to Germany, you can book a flight on de.delta.com.
They have an exchange rate tool on the website in which you can plug the price you want to pay. Considering that you will need to pay in EUR, you might get a cheaper fare.(3)
FLEXIBILITY
Consider checking the prices from nearby airports as well. I’ve personally saved 80$ when I was flying from London. There are 3 airports in London and I chose the one with the best price.
So, if you have the opportunity to get a cheap taxi to a specific airport that allows you to save some money, consider doing it. It’s a bit of a hassle to do your research, but in the end it’s worth it.
Remember to check on Google flights. This is how you stay on top of your game!(4)
THE LAYOVER TACTIC
OK. I don’t know how legal this is, but my cousin has done it and it worked. You can book a flight with a layover.
The layover needs to be the destination you actually want to reach. By now, I guess you already know what to do: just never get back on your flight. Remember that this only works if you don’t have checked in luggage.
Also, this only works if you have a one way ticket, as if you don’t go back on the plane, Delta will probably cancel the return flight. It’s definitely worth it, as you can find cheaper prices this way.
Again, I don’t know how legal this is, but it doesn’t sound too illegal.(5)
CHEAPEST DAYS TO FLY DELTA
For some weird reason, the cheapest flights are generally on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, according to an article written a couple of years ago.(6)
We all aim for booking our flights on Fridays, but that’s just not affordable. Fridays are the busiest days in terms of flights, therefore also the most expensive ones.
If you’re willing to get up early in the morning, then you might be able to save a couple more dollars. Again, the cheapest days to fly with Delta are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
TRAVEL AGENCIES
This might seem very old fashioned, but sometimes you can get better prices out of traditional travel agencies. I’ve had luck in the past, but sometimes this is not the case.
Anyway, if you have enough time on your hands, it’s worth to try and get some Delta discounts. You have nothing to lose.(7)
Also, if you’re planning to stay more than a couple of days in your destination, you can sometimes get good deals in regards to packages (flight + accommodation).
FALSE DISCOUNT
OK. This one is definitely illegal, unlike the layover tactic. Delta offers discounts to for bereavement, children and people with medical issues.
One Delta employee once claimed that the company never checks the validity of the discount. Therefore, you can lie about having medical conditions in order to get better prices.(8)
I’ve never done this and I don’t advice you to do it. BUT you have the possibility to do it if you’re desperate.
